On 5 June, once again, he became the first batsman to reach 1000 runs and went one better on 22 July when he was the first to reach 2000 runs. His 2,138 runs in the Championship was the highest in the country and he finished the season with his best aggregate for the county with 2,430 runs at an average of 55.22 and fourth in the national averages. At Portsmouth he shared an opening partnership of 194 with ‘Laddie’ Outschoorn and went on to score 202 not out in six hours with 27 fours. Two weeks later, during another long partnership with Outschoorn of 231 and one of 160 for the second wicket with George Dews, Don scored 253 not out at Worcester against Leicestershire. During this innings, which included 37 fours, he completed his 2000 runs. In between these double-centuries he made his second appearance for the Players against the Gentlemen at Lord’s scoring 54 in the first innings before being bowled by Robin Marlar but failing in the second. At The Oval during last match of the season Don scored 8 in a Worcestershire total of 25 and 0 in the second innings total of 40. That aggregate of 65 is still the lowest for the county.
