Despite indifferent form early in the tour with 78 runs in seven innings Don was given his first Test appearance at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi and batted at number three scoring 35 and 6 being dismissed in each innings by Sadashiv Shinde. For the Second Test at Bombay he was moved down to number five, with no better results, and was out to Lala Amarnath for 21 in the first innings and, opening with Frank Lowson in the second, was leg-before to Sriranga Sohoni for 2. Don showed an improvement in the next two first-class matches and retained his place for the Third Test at Eden Gardens but early dismissals for 3 and 0 were his last Test appearances of the tour. At Hyderabad he played his best innings of the tour scoring 112 in just over three and a half hours hitting 15 fours with partnerships of 117 with Tom Graveney for the third wicket and 134 for the fourth with Cyril Poole.
