He had an excellent August with hundreds at Scarborough, Cheltenham and Taunton, in consecutive matches, form that helped Worcestershire finish fourth in the County Championship. His end of season tally was 2,133 at an average 41.82 with six hundreds and nine fifties earning him a winter trip to India, Pakistan and Ceylon and his first Test appearance.
