This was an incredible match with the Rest, for whom Don was top scorer with 7, all out for 27 in 110 minutes. Don was one of Jim Laker’s victims in a remarkable spell of 14-12-2-8, caught by Godfrey Evans and in the second innings leg before to Eric Hollies for 9, so Test selection was put on hold for the moment. He was, however, selected for the annual Players against the Gentlemen match at Lord’s in July and scored a second innings 54. During his innings of 155, including a six and 19 fours, at Grace Road in the last match of the season he completed 2000 County Championship runs and his aggregate from all matches for Worcestershire was 2,174 averaging 45.29, with six hundreds and twelve fifties.
