Again, his only away match was against Surrey at Kennington Oval. He did not enjoy the same success as in 1962 scoring only 254 runs in twelve Championship innings at an average of 21.16 and 270 runs in all matches at 19.28. His highest score was 47 against Gloucestershire at Trent Bridge but he also batted well in his final home appearance against Surrey making 37 in each innings as Nottinghamshire won by 115 runs.
