Famous Cricketers No 50 - Reg Simpson

1959 The 1959 season saw Simpson back to something like his best form with 2033 runs in all competitions at an average of 40.66. He hit five centuries for Nottinghamshire, four of them in the Championship against Warwickshire, Sussex, and Surrey (two). The other hundred was against the Indian touring team. Nottinghamshire finished last in the Championship again but this time bowling was the problem. Only four games were won and no Nottinghamshire bowler had an average below 30. As well as his centuries Simpson hit twelve fifties in the Championship and headed the Nottinghamshire averages with 1860 runs at 41.33. Many of his innings this season were played from the middle order where he had gone to give the middle of the innings some much needed stiffening. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 403.
