There was only one match in which he failed to take a wicket and that was the Sussex game at Headingley when Hugh Bartlett, at the start of his outstanding season, twice hit him for 3 sixes in an over. Yorkshire again won the County Champoinship, their twentieth success, and Verity finished top of the county averages for this competition but fractionally second overall to Bill Bowes in the first-class averages of those who took over 30 wickets.
