A strong side led by Paul Gibb played three first-class matches winning one and drawing the other two. Their most illustrious opponent was the great George Headley who in five innings scored one century and two fifties. The tour was particularly memorable for Verity as in it he scored his only first-class hundred. Otherwise there was not much out-of-season relaxation for him as he bowled 204 overs in the three matches including 59 overs in an innings on two occasions. His accuracy was again remarkable as he only conceded 360 runs in perfect batting conditions and he finished up with the best all-round record of the Yorkshire team.
