After his arduous tour of Australia, Bedser was not always at his best and suffered badly from dropped catches. However he did take 11 wickets in one match against Derbyshire at The Oval and late in the season scored his only first-class century against Somerset at Taunton. Surrey finished 6th in the Championship. He lost his England place after the first two Test matches against South Africa. 13
