At Old Trafford against Lancashire, play started on the Monday with a newly prepared pitch and both Gover and Bedser made the ball fly with Bedser taking 11 wickets in the game. Bedser was picked for England in the First Test match which was his eleventh match of the season and his thirteenth first-class match in all. He arrived on the international scene by taking eleven wickets in the match, followed by 11 more in the Second Test for a total of 24 wickets in the three-match series.
