He felt exhausted and lacked enthusiasm at the start of the season and was fortunate to be selected for the First Test against South Africa. During this match, he kept wicket despite having broken his thumb. He was dropped for the last two Test matches and shared his wicket-keeping duties in Kent with Derek Ufton. In August he bowled for Kent against Nottinghamshire, when Kent used nine bowlers, and took his only two first-class wickets dismissing F.W.Stinchcombe (who played only 6 matches for his County) and A.J.Underwood, who had a longer career of 14 matches. Later in August, he scored a century for Kent against Leicestershire in a season when Kent finished 16th in the Championship. Evans made himself unavailable for the 1951/52 M.C.C. tour to India.
