Famous Cricketers No 41 - T.G.Evans, C.B.E.
1950 In the series against West Indies, England used 25 players. In the First Test at Old Trafford, Evans came to the wicket ten minutes before lunch when the score was 88-5. He took part in a record partnership with T.E.Bailey of 161 and went on to complete his first Test century of 104 in 2 hours 20 minutes, which changed the course of the match leading to an England victory. However, the West Indies fought back in the second match at Lord’s to create a major shift in the balance of power in world cricket. On 10th August, whilst batting for Kent against Middlesex, Evans broke his thumb which ended his season causing him to miss the last Test Match of the series.
