Starting the tour slowly in unaccustomed conditions he showed his mettle for the first time at Bradford when Australia, requiring only 60 to win in a low scoring game, were 31-6 with the injured S.J.E.Loxton unable to bat. Having already given a chance to Hutton at short leg he and D.Tallon took the score to 47-6 at tea on the second day. After the interval the game was finished in three overs as the batsmen scored the runs in style. Harvey had another life at 12 when he danced down the pitch only for D.V.Brennan to miss the ball behind the wicket and the youngster gratefully won the match with a huge drive for six.
