Famous Cricketers No 40 - Neil Harvey
sharing a partnership of 194 with N.C.O’Neill (100) who was also making a return to form. Harvey’s final first-class match was the Fifth Test at Sydney and whilst he did not do very well with the bat he equalled the then record number of catches in a Test match with six which has since been beaten by G.S.Chappell, Yajuvindra Singh and H.P.Tillakaratne with seven. Harvey ended his career as second only to Bradman among Australian batsmen with 21,699 runs and 67 centuries and 6,149 Test runs with twenty-one centuries and had appeared at that time in more Tests than any other Australian - 79. Since then he has slipped down to fourth place in career records behind A.R.Border (27,131 runs with 70 hundreds) and G.S.Chappell (24,535 runs with 74 hundreds) and fifth place behind A.R.Border (11,174), D.C.Boon (7,422) and G.S.Chappell (7,110) in the Test list.
