In a Kent side short of fast bowling, he was again called upon to do a great deal of work. It was a season of invariably fast wickets so he bowled very well given the pitches rarely suited him. With “Tich” Freeman now a force as a bowler they were as formidable pair as any, given any assistance. But it was as a Test player that 1921 is remembered for Woolley. His remarkable 90s with little support in the Lord's Test against the full might of a rampant Australian attack stand as probably the two finest innings of his career.
