In a season of uncertain weather with many slow pitches on which left-handed bowlers dominated, his haul of 185 wickets was the best of his career. He topped both the Kent batting and bowling averages and at times carried the side. Of particular note was his match-winning 139 in little over two hours on a wearing wicket at Horsham, a match in which he also took ten wickets. 39
