Famous Cricketers No 4 - F.E.Woolley
1911 A splendid second half of the season when he scored all his six centuries brought Woolley his best season to date. Wisden still berated weaknesses in his defence and of his being a bad starter particularly against the faster bowlers, but nevertheless regarded him the cleanest and finest driver among English left-handers. In a season of good weather his haul of wickets fell by over fifty. However all this was enough for him to be chosen for his first tour of Australia, although the need for mobility in the field may have been the decisive factor in his favour.
