As a precaution M.C.C. selected an eighteenth player, J.V.Wilson, in case of further injuries. Denis suffered mixed fortunes. His injury in the first Test meant that he was not fit until the end of December and thereafter his only two major innings on the tour were 182 in the return match against South Australia at Adelaide and 84 in the drawn final Test at Sydney.
