This feat was accomplished in his 35th year and he was and is still the second youngest after W.R.Hammond to reach this target. He played in only two Tests against the visiting Indians. He made a total of 1,880 runs with four hundreds. A highlight of his season was an innings of 130 at Lord’s against Worcestershire. He took 77 wickets this year, his most ever in a season.
