Denis did not have at all a happy tour. He could strike no sort of form in the Test matches although he managed to reach a thousand runs for the whole tour including the New Zealand portion. He hit four centuries in all but failed to reveal his best side at any stage of most innings. England at last succeeded in winning a Test against Australia, their first since 1938 at Kennington Oval.
