Famous Cricketers No 39 - D.C.S.Compton
1936 Denis Compton’s debut impressed all those who saw it. Batting at number 11 he helped G.O.B.Allen to add 36 runs for the last wicket and give Middlesex a first ininings lead of 13 runs. He managed to take two wickets, one in each innings and make one catch. He soon progressed up the order and made 87 in his third match batting at number 7. He made his first hundred (100 not out) in his tenth first-class innings, at Northampton, and finished his debut season with 1004 runs, all but one game for Middlesex. He was only the twelfth player to accomplish the feat of a thousand runs in his debut season. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 1.
