Wright led by example to end the season with 127 wickets - approximately one-third of all wickets taken by bowlers! - for an average and strike rate better than at any time since 1939 when he was arguably at his peak. His best return of the season were 8 for 36 against Worcestershire at Dover in August but match figures of 9 for 90 against Surrey at The Oval in July when he led the side to a shock victory over the Champions were equally meritorious. Despite Kent’s decline in the Championship, many commented favourable on Wright’s captaincy, The Cricketer noting that “…he made good use of his experience and showed considerable skill in managing the bowling at his command.” Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 431.
