During his absence, the Kent Committee relieved Bill Murray-Wood of the Kent captaincy. Since there was no obvious successor amongst the amateur ranks, Wright (as the senior professional) was invited to act in this capacity for the remainder of the season. His first match in this role on recovering from injury was against Somerset at Dover and Wright led from the front with match figures of 12 for 102 which were largely responsible for Kent’s victory. A further ten wicket haul against Northamptonshire at Northampton later in the month enabled his side to achieve similar success. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 378.
