For the first time since his injury-blighted 1948 season, Wright failed to secure one hundred wickets in the season and his average and strike rate deteriorated. Indeed, during the course of seven matches in mid-season, Wright claimed just eight wickets. However, his lean spells were interspersed with days when he was still virtually unplayable. These days, alas, were not often enough to prevent Kent from slipping from ninth to sixteenth position in the County Championship. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 321.
