In the Test matches, his performances - often on very true wickets ideally suited for heavy run scoring - make poor reading with his nine wickets costing in excess of 58 runs each and at a strike rate of a wicket every fifteen (eight-ball) overs. There was, however, little questioning his willingness to bowl long spells in less than favourable conditions when required, no better example being than in the last, “timeless” Test when he sent down 552 deliveries in the match for scant return. Away from the Tests, he enjoyed far better fortunes and finished the tour as leading wicket-taker. Wright’s haul was boosted by the fourth hat-trick of his career, against Border at East London in January. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 117.
