1909 Hobbs started the season in tremendous form, scoring 919 runs in May. He injured a finger in the Lancashire match at Old Trafford in July and missed several matches. Before injuring his finger he went eleven innings without reaching fifty. He scored his first 200, and played his first Tests at home. He scored 460 runs against Warwickshire in four innings.
