WILTSHIRE CRICKETERS (Published in 2015) Amendments and Additions Introduction: Upford should probably be Ugford Chris Clynes who has researched early Wiltshire cricket has sent the following additional comment concerning the sequence of events leading to the formation of the County Club: “In 1881 four meetings of club representatives led to the formation of the Wiltshire County Cricket Club. The first on 24th February at the Great Western Hotel, Swindon was attended by representatives of only six clubs, all from the north of the county. There were subsequent meetings at Chippenham on 10th March and Salisbury on 19th March which gave most of the county representation. A final general meeting was held at the George Hotel, Trowbridge on 26th March which confirmed the Wiltshire County Cricket Club coming into existence.” Biographies: Bown, JR – b 22.8.1862 Connor, DM – b 26.10.1910 Garlike CF – b 20.12.1884 Godwin, JB – b 5.11.1860 Hibbard, JC – b 13.12.1857 Hilder, ECL – b 18.1.1892 Jaques, OS – b 20.10.1870 Jennings, SC – add additional forename Allen - b 5.8.1901 Martin G – amend b to 21.11.1873 Matthews, AI – d 17.3.1996 Pakeman, JH – b 21.10.1861 Pugh, J – Also Cumberland (1904).
