I Major Faulkner wap well-known in Nottingham cricket circles, and fot-two years immediately pre­ ceding the war, during which he served with the 10 th Battalion of th^> Worcestershire Regiment, he was a popular member of tho Notts. Amateurs eleven. In tho season of 1914 , while playing for that club he accomplished a truly remarkable sequence of performances, both with bat and ball, and set up a local record, which is scarcely eVer likely to bo equalled. In thac year when he played for the Amateurs on Saturdays, and assisted J. Oahu's Notts. Ramblers X I ir mid-week matches, he ex­ ceeded the century on no fewer than 12 occasions; twice topped the second hundred, and against Notts. Forest and Blackwell Tig captured all ten wickets in an innings. In all matches in 1914 the famous South African cricketer averaged nearly 82 for forty innings (fm ..times not out), and if a score of 120 (retired) against Brondesbury were counted as not out his average was a traction under 85 .
