C. Morris, the “ guide, philosopher, and friend ” of the team, played •only in the club games, not against schools. Webb batted capitally, but no one else did anything great in that line, though the twro Cros- mans, Brinton, and J. Carey were good at times. Brinton and J. Stokes were the chief bowlers, with aid from Carey and Garrigues. The last-named was captain, and led his side well and in a spirit of self-sacrifice. E. N. Crosman [kept wicket capitally, and the fielding was very good indeed. BATTING AVERAGES. BATSMAN. INNS. N.O. R. A. II.S. •C. C. Morris 5 O 157 3 I -40 92 W. Webb . . 17 I 434 27 -OI 86 * E. N. Morris and Crosman added 104, the former making 87 in 78 minutes, the latter 90 in 83. Pearce slammed 92 in 65 minutes. Pearce’s bowling was out of the ordinary. The 8 runs scored off him included an overthrow for two, and a chance was missed at wicket ; yet he took 8 wickets for the paltry total ! B l a c k h e a t h . A. J. North, b Pearce S.
