The annual tournament began on September 7, when the Parsis -met the Mahommedans. The Parsis were led for the first time by J. S. Warden, their crack all-rounder, and his generalship earned high praise. He handled his team with great skill, and moreover did more than one man’s share towards the victory of his side. The Parsi batting on the first day was slow, the first 38' runs taking an hour to make, while the next hour only produced 42. Warden and Vajifdar made the stand of the innings, adding 54 for the fifth wicket. The Mahommedan attack was very good, Saleh Mahomed especially getting a lot of work in. Elavia and Mirza bowled unchanged when the Islamites batted, and disposed of the whole side for 72. In the Parsis’ second innings, which began on the second morning, Driver and Elchidana put up 64 before the first wicket fell, but all were out for 114. Tamboowalla did the damage this time. Rain prevented any further play, and on the third day the Mahommedans never looked like getting the 219 required for victory. Khan Mahomed alone stayed long, and the Parsis won by 139 runs. Mirza and Elavia again bowled well, and these two shared with Warden the chief honours of the game. The Presidency team against the Hindus on September 10 included Sir F. L. Sprott. who played in the first match between Parsis and Presidency. 22 years ago, Major J. G. Greig, H. Cheetham, another veteran, H. L. Simms, the Sussex all-round player, and M. G. Salter, of Cheltenham. Oxford, and Gloucestershire. M. D. Pai captained the Hindus. The game, drawn owing to rain, does not call for much comment. Its best feature was some free hitting by Simms and Salter in the Presidency’s second innings. Deodhar and Gunpat batted well for the Hindus. As the Hindus had led on the first innings, they would have met the Parsis in the final. But, owing to more heavy rain, the final had to be abandoned. P a r s is . First Innings. D. D.
