N o v e m b e r , 1914. THE WORLD OF CRICKET. 483 Mr. W. S. Eadie died at Barrow Hall, Derby, on September 19. He was born November 27, 1864 ; and was a batsman who at one time gave promise of becoming first-class. Between 1885-1899 Mr. Eadie played in 58 matches for Derbyshire, scoring 1014 runs in 98 innings (11 times not out) with an average of 11*65. His highest score was made in his first match for the county—62 v. Lancashire at Manchester in 1885 ; and he finished fourth in the Derbyshire averages that season, scoring 315 runs with an average of 16. Though he continued, to repre sent the county intermittently for fifteen years, never again did he approach the form displayed in his first season, and his only other score of fifty was 51 against Notts at Nottingham in 1889. W a l t e r N ic h o l s o n died at Mexborough about the middle of September. He was born April 13, 1861, and was an all round cricketer above the average. On the one occasion on which he appeared in the Yorkshire Eleven—against Durham at Darlington in 1892, he scored 48 and 16, and took one wicket for 12 runs. Whether this is or is not the chivalrous and popular ex-captain of Worcestershire, we wish him a speedy recovery.
