This is not quite a record, 21 such scores having been made in the season of 1901. No one scored two centuries in a match in 1914. Coe (v. Essex), George Gunn ( v . Sussex), Hayes ( v . Yorkshire), J. W. Hearne ( v . Worcestershire), Hobbs ( v . Yorkshire), Kinneir ( v . Leicestershire), Mead ( v . Kent and v. Somerset), John Sharp ( v . Middlesex), Tarrant ( v . Lancashire and v. Worcestershire), and Frank Woolley ( v . Gloucestershire and v. Leicestershire) made centuries in each match against one county or more. Wilson (B. B.) and Sharp made one century in each month of the season—four each in all. Hearne (J. W.), Hobbs, Mead, Tarrant, and Frank Woolley each made at least one century in May, June, July, and August, and Mead also made one in September ; but these five all scored more than four centuries. All four of John Tyldesley’s three-figure scores were made in August. Men playing at all frequently who appeared in the list last year but do not appear this include Booth, Brown (G.), Drake, F. L. Fane, Harrison, A. H. Hornby, Hyman, G. L. Jessop, E. L. Kidd, F. T. Mann, Pearson, W. N. Riley, and P. F. Warner. The new names in this year’s list (that is, of men who have never reached three figures in first-class cricket in this country before) are those of Birtles, Buswell, G. B. Davies, M. K. Foster, Heap, G. L. Hebden, M. Howell, B. D. Hylton-Stewart, D. J. Knight, Lee (H. W.), Newman, A. D. E. Rippon, L. H. W. Troughton, Wells, Whysall, C. T. A. Wilkinson, and Woolley (C. N.). Names reappearing after an absence of some length are those of B. L. Bisgood (last included in 1907), Burrows (1907), Car penter (1906), S. H. Day (1908), H. G. Garnett (1903), Major J. G. Greig (1910), Iremonger (1910), Sir T. C. O ’Brien (1905), and W. P. Robertson (1910). Of the 204 centuries 190 were made in the 189 Championship matches played, and 16 (by Hobbs, Humphreys, Rhodes, Sey mour, L. H. W . Troughton, Sir X. C. O'Brien, Lee, Whysall, and 8 by University players) in the 28 matches outside the Championship. Thirty-seven centuries were scored in May, 62 in June, 43 in July, 58 in August, and 4 in September. In cases where an innings ran into dates in two months, it is allocated here to that in which it was begun. Four times during the season three centuries were made in an innings—by A. P. Day, Woolley, and Hubble for Kent v. Leicestershire at Catford ; by Robert Relf, Jupp, and H. P. Chaplin for Sussex v. Worcestershire at Worcester ; by Hayward, Hobbs, and D. J. Knight for Surrey v. Kent at Blackheath ; and by Hayward, Hobbs, and Hayes for Surrey v. Yorkshire at Lord's. Two centuries in an innings were made 33 times. Hobbs was the only man who scored three centuries in succes sive innings. Robert Relf made three in three consecutive matches. J. W . Heame and Mead each twice scored two in succession, and Bowell, Haywood, Hendren, Tarrant, John Tyldesley, and Frank Woolley each scored two in succession once. Hendren made three in four consecutive matches. Seventeen of the 204 centuries were made at the O v a l; 16 each at Leyton and Lord’s ; 13 at Worcester; 11 a t Hove ; 10 each at Manchester, Northampton, and Nottingham ; 8 at Canterbury ; 6 each at Dudley and Southampton ; 5 each at Cambridge and Leicester ; 4 each at Birmingham, Bradford, Oxford, Sheffield, and Taunton ; 3 each at Blackheath, Bourne mouth, Catford, Derby, and Eastbourne ; 2 each at Bath, Bristol, Coalville, Coventry, Gloucester, Hinckley, Lancaster, Maidstone, Portsmouth, and Tunbridge Wells ; and one each at Ashby-de- la-Zouch, Basingstoke, Burton-on-Trent, Cheltenham, Dewsbury, Gravesend, Harrogate, Hastings, Horsham, Huddersfield, Hull, Leeds, Liverpool, Old Buckenham, Tonbridge, and Weston- super-Mare. Last year 23 were made at the Oval, 18 at Southampton, 16 each at Leyton and Lord's, 14 at Nottingham, and 12 at Wor cester—this of a total of 223. Of 162 in 1912 Lord’s claimed 18, Leyton and the Oval 17 each, and Hove and Southampton 14 each. There were between 50 and 60 scores of 90 and over, Philip Mead claiming four of them (97*, 96, 94, and 92), and Frank Woolley three (96, 94, and 92). M. K. Foster made 99 and 97, Kinneir 98 and 97, Hubble 99* and 92, the Hon. R. Anson 97 and 97, Dipper 94 and 92, and Ernest Tyldesley 95 and 94. Besides Hubble’s 99*, scores of 99 were made by Carpenter and Tarrant. John Tyldesley made a 98. Coe and J. S. Denton each scored a 97*. Scores of 97 were made by Harrison, Heap,
