At Worcester, August 29 and 31, September 1. After a good start in this match Worcestershire fell away badly, and lost in the event. Maurice Foster played a brilliant innings of 158 on the Saturday, getting his runs in 110 minutes (he ran to 50 in 30 minutes, and to 100 in 65),. giving no chance, and hitting one six and 27 fours. Chester helped him to add 121 in 55 minutes for the fourth wicket. Derbyshire were 193 behind with 4 wickets to fall at the close of the day. Wild and Reader (the latter playing for the first time) made a stand which had much to do with averting the follow-on. The two Fosters made 84 of 123 from the bat in the home side’s second, G. N. scoring 32 in a quarter of an hour, and M. K. hitting 9 fours in his 52. Horsley and Slater bowled very well indeed. Set 236 for victory, Derbyshire lost 3 for 14. Beet helped Cadman to add 73, and then came a capital stand by Cadman and Slater, who had put on 65 unparted before call of time, and on the Tuesday remained together till they had added 141 in all, and had practically won the game for their side. Slater hit 10 fours in his capital 75, and Cadman batted 175 minutes for his excellent 119*, also containing 10 fours. Derbyshire won by 5 wickets. W o r c e s t e r s h i r e . First Innings. The home side did not show up well in this match, although Mounteney hit hard for his 45 (in 40 minutes) on the first day, and Wood and Coe batted in fine plucky style in the last innings of the game. George Gunn and Hardstaff added 99 together for the second wicket in the first innings of Notts ; in the second Lee and John Gunn added 163 for the third. Lee hit 2 sixes and 7 fours ; Gunn played quite his best innings of the season, batting something under 4 hours for his capital 154*. Barratt bowled in great form, and Geary and Shipman did good work with the ball for the losers. Notts won by 208 runs. N o t t in g h a m s h ir e . First Innings. Gunn (G.), c Astill, b King Lee (G.
