On a slow pitch Cheshire* failed before the strong Staffordshire attack. Barnes did not arrive on the field until 3 wickets had fallen, owing to delay on his journey back from a holiday at Colwvn Bay. He took 6 of the last 7 wickets at a cost of only 7 runs, and when his side went in made top score batting well on a difficult wicket for i f hours. He and Dearing added 47 for the last wicket. At call of time Cheshire had 4 out for 43 in their second innings. This closed for 100 on Tuesday, and Staffordshire won by 10 wickets. First Innings. C h e s h ir e . F. L. Durham fared badly against Skinner’s bowling Most of the Northumbrian batsmen, on the other hand, made runs, and at the call of time the northernmost county had a lead of 119 with 3 wickets still to fall. Dales, Adamson, and Maynard played up well on Tuesday for Durham : but Northumber land won by 5 wickets. D u r h a m . First Innings. A. F. Fulcher and Reed made a long stand for the first wicket of Devon before the ball began to cut through on the soft pitch ; afterwards runs were harder to gather, and when Cornwall batted the wicket was at its worst. They were all out for 89. Following on on Tuesday, they averted an innings defeat ; but for this they had almost entirely to thank Holman, who hit up 100, no one else reaching 20. Devon won by 10 wickets. D e v o n . First Innings. 267 N o r t h u m b e r l a n d B o w l e r s ’ A n a l y s is .
