(C ro w d ed ou t la st w eek.) G r a n t h a m had an excellent programme for their cricket week. On Monday and Tuesday they played the Old Rossallians, who beat them by 10 wickets, T. A. Higson taking 8 for 29 in the home side’s first and G. L. B. James 6 for 23 in the second. Totals : Grantham, 96 and 99 : Old Rossallians, 183 and 13 for o. On Wednesday King’s School were beaten just on time, Grantham declaring at 224 for 5, and the school making 139. M. W. Appleby, who has done fine work for Grantham as a bowler, scored his first century for the club, and Allen made 75. Banks, the school pro, was top scorer for his side with 67. O n Thursday Grantham met an eleven brought by Captain Ellison, who has done so much to help the club. This was the great day of the week ; the Lincolnshire Yeomanry String Band was in attendance ; and the Captain gave a luncheon to the teams and a number of friends. Many others accepted the invitation to tea, and the match was quite a social function. Grantham made 1 3 1 — S. Shaw 52 ; Captain Ellison’s XI 3 3 7 for 9— E. Wright (Notts Commercials) 8 5 , L. O n Friday and Saturday Grantham met a M.C.C. team, captained by Sir Arthur Priestley, M.P. for Grantham. Walter Brearley, Beet, and Astill were included in the visiting side. The Lancashire fast bowler took 8 for 19 in Grantham’s second ; in their first Walter Mead had 7 for 46. The scores were : M.C.C. 196 (Astill 81) and 162 for 3 dec. (Capt. Docker 78, Beet 46); Grantham 131 (Allen 57) and 48. In the Durham Senior League the bowlers had the best of matters. Wearmouth lost their unbeaten certificate, and Durham City also went under. T h e r e were only two scores of over 5 0 — W. D. Allison’s 71 for Whitburn v. Burnmoor and Hendren’s 6 3 for Sunderland v. Hendon. As Allison also took 6 for 16 and Hendren 7 for 4 3 these two players bore off the all-round honours of the day’s cricket. C lo u g h (Seaham Harbour v. Boldon) had 8 for 4 2 ; H. W. Combev (Burnmoor v. Whitburn) 6 for 38 ; and H. P. Clode (Wearmouth v. South Shields) 5 for 47 - I n Ulster Senior League matches on Saturday Cliftonville (166 for 7— H. E. Wood 53, L. M. Murphy 36, J. H. Dunn 35) beat North Down (Harling 42, E. A. Baxter 38, J. Andrews 26, W. Andrews 25) by 3 wickets; Downpatrick (115 for 2— W. S. Sproule 49*, J. A. Acheson 43*) only just failed to beat Holvwood (123— S. C. Erskine 38, L. Erskine 31); North of Ireland (195 for 6, dec.— G. Combe 36, F. Garainer 36, R. V. Williams 34, C. S. Forsyth 30) and Ulster (122 for 6— G. Jackson 63, S. H. Jackson 37) drew ; and Armagh (132 for 6) beat Lisburn (130) by 4 wickets. E.
