THE WORLD OF CRICKET. A u gu st i , 1914. The Score Book. LINCOLNSHIRE v. SUFFOLK. At Grimsby, July 22 and 23. Neither side had anything near full strength, and scoring ruled low on a wicket that always helped the bowlers, though it was not so difficult on the second day as on the first. Penfold again bowled well for Suffolk, and made useful scores, too ; Mortimer showed some form in both innings, and Titchmarsh in the second. Kitchen’s 59 when Lincolnshire went in to get 124 for victory had a big share in his side’s win by 5 wickets. S u f f o l k . G l a m o r g a n . First Innings. Second Innings. R. D. CHESHIRE. At South Moor, July 22 and 23. Proud won the toss, and sent Cheshire in on a difficult pitch. When 6 had fallen for 68 his policy seemed justified ; but at this stage L. N. Jones, who played par ticularly well, and Smoker made a stand of 58* and the tail played up so well that the total reached 189. Morris was very deadly at the outset, and was never hit much. Durham had 50 up with only one man out, but collapsed before Smoker, who bowled very finely, and were all out for 92. Cheshire had 5 down for 65 in their second innings ; but then Hope and Jones had a partnership which realised 53. Sent in to get 230 to win, Durham seemed at first likely to bring off victory, having n o up for 3, but, though they made a good fight, Dales playing particularly plucky cricket, they were all out for 195, and Cheshire won a victory which should do them a lot of good by 34 runs. Monmouth had first innings on a pitch that favoured the bowlers, and a broken first day’s play saw them make 123—not a bad total as things were—and get down 5 Glamorgan wickets for 23. On the second day the home team’s innings closed for 59, and Monmouth were all out at their second attempt for 83, Hacker bowling with great success. Glamorgan had no chance of trying for the 148 wanted for victory, as rain came on again in the afternoon and put further play out of the question. The visitors took first innings’ points.
