(b) And more this—Southland not technically a “ major province.” ------------ + ------------ Overseas Cricket Chat. CANADA. A. L- Gorringe, who was up at Cambridge a few years ago but did not get his blue, and who has played a lot of cricket in Sussex, is going great guns at Hamilton, Ont., just now. He is a master at Highfield School, and in the course of three weeks or so regis tered three centuries :— 194* for the School v. Hamilton on May 23 ; 123 for Hamilton v. Bishop Ridley College on May 30 ; and 102 for the School v. Hamilton on June 13. On May 23 he and E. Rechintzer (I trust the name is right) put up 260 together unparted. E. S. Batson made 101* for Electric Lighting v. Old Country at Toronto on June 13. Cowichan (for which Gilbert Curgenven used to play) led the A Division of the Island League (B.C.) on June 6, with 5 victories in 5 games. There were some very close games on that date. Cowichan beat Garrison by one wicket, Victoria beat Albion by 2 runs, and University Incogs beat Nanaimo by 21 runs. A new club under the curious title of “ The Five C.’s " has just been formed at Victoria. The Toronto season practically opened on May 24 (Victoria Day). Rosedale, strengthened by seceders from one or two other senior clubs, are showing a bold front. They made 218 v. St. Albans, who were all put out for 58 by H. G. Wookey and W . M. Raeburn. Raeburn played for Toronto last year. L. C. L. Sutton (King’s School, Bruton, and Somerset) played very fine cricket for the winners, making 106 in 125 minutes, and hitting 16 fours. He gave a couple of chances ; but the first was very difficult, and the second was not offered till he had passed 100. In their second match Rosedale defeated Grace Church, two West Indians, L. Heath (Barbados) and M. M. Moiston (Jamaica) playing good cricket for the winners. The latter got 48* in 42 minutes. Alan Ker scored 113 for St. Andrew’s College v. Mimico Asylum on May 28. McGill (Montreal) has two decided acquisitions in W. B. Burns (Worcestershire) and Stuart R. Saunders, who captained the Canada and U.S. team against the Australians last season. He has left Guelph for Montreal. When McGill go after the John Ross Robertson cup, now held by the Winnipeg Wanderers, later in the season these two may have a big say in the matter. Regina are also after that trophy, and the four chief clubs in the city are said to be consolidating with a view to sending a really hot team to Winnipeg. Dr. W. W. Wright (Toronto) is taking a holiday in England, and Ontarians hope to hear of him now and then on the cricket fields of the old country. Toronto lost their first match (June 16) to Grace Church by 49 runs— totals 144 and 95.
