Mr. Robinson had a strong team , including as it did several prominent first-class players, with Rockliff, the Tasm anian Rhodes Scholar, who represented his state before he cam e into residence at Oxford, Fulcher (Norfolk), and Cuthbertson (Herts). Incogniti, on the other hand, were scarcely at full strength, and were beaten b y an innings and 28 runs. Mr. L io n e l R o b in s o n ’ s XI. E. F. Rose, b Marshall C. A fter the first innings, in which Glamorgan were rather cheaply dismissed, this m atch developed into a riot of runs, the 15 wickets falling later realising 762, while in all well over 900 were scored. The best stand in the Welsh county’s first was only 45, for the third wicket by Riches and Rees, Morris bowling well ; but when Durham batted Hendren and Kinch added 103 for the second wicket, and D ales and H arry 176 for the fifth, while in Glamorgan’s second Tait and Riches put on 108 for the third. Durham took first innings’ points. G l a m o r g a n . First Innings. N. V. H. Riches, lbw, b Morris .. 66 J. R. Tait, c and b Morris .. .. 6 E. R. Sweet-Escott, c Sm ith, b Morris 9 S. The side put in the field by E gypt and the Sudan was a strong one on paper ; it included four or five of those who played for A ll E gyp t v. I Zingari tw o or three months ago, with tw o old Oxonians in R. E. More and N. R. Udal, and Captain Brander. O f the I Z. side which visited E gyp t five appeared for M.C.C., who only played two pros, W atson, the capable Norfolk bowler, and N ew man, the W iltshire all-rounder. The show made by E gyp t and the Sudan on W ednesday was very disappointing. Brander alone topped 20 ; no one proved effective to any special degree in the bowling line ; and at call of time th ey were practically a beaten side, still needing 112 to save an innings defeat, with only 3 wickets to go. They had the rough luck to lose Udal, probably their best bowler, quite early through a strain. Anson and Mackenzie put on 83 for the second wicket of M.C.C., and H ead and Browning 71 for the last. On Thursday Udal batted. It had been stated that the substitute who had fielded m ight be allowed to go in (at Lord’s, too !); but, with the aid of a runner, he was able to take his innings, hit up a fine 77 (one five, 10 fours), and saved the innings defeat. Newman had good bowling figures for M.C.C., especially in the first innings of the game. M.C.C. won by 10 wickets. E g y p t a n d t h e S u d a n . 1 7 J. W .
