io8 THE WORLD OF CRICKET. M a y 2, 1914. I Z i n g a r i T o u r in E g y p t. FIFTH MATCH, v. ALL EGYPT. Oil the Gezireh Ground, at Cairo, March 26, 27, and 28. Two days having proved insufficient for each of the previous tests (here we have this incorrect label turning up again, as in New Zealand), three were given to this game. The tourists were still without Hesketh-Prichard, and Lord Bernard Gordon-Lennox, who had broken a shoulder-blade while fielding in the fourth match, was also an absentee, E. H. Goschen taking his place. I Zingari batted somewhat slowly in their first innings; but, though no one reached 50, the substantial total of 281 was recorded, the last wicket being responsible for one of the best stands of the innings. The home side rattled up their 261 in a couple of hours. Thus far there was nothing in it ; but now a big innings by the Hon. Rupert Anson, who hit 18 fours in his 162, put I Zingari well ahead. Again the last pair contributed usefully, adding 50 in 25 minutes. Ail Egypt went for the runs, and the scoring was fast and free. Carr’s 58 included 5 sixes and 5 fours; in Hewitt’s 56 were 3 sixes and 4 fours ; and Liddell, who gave no chance in making his 83, hit 12 fours. J. C. MacLaren, who played a steadier game, rendered good service by staying while his partners hit, and made top score : he and Liddell added 140 for the third wicket. The tail failed to stay the course, and I Z. won by 103 runs after a really good match. Captain M. Crichton-Maitland’s bowling had as much as anything (not even excepting Anson’s innings) to do with their victory. 1 Z in g a r i. First Innings. Hon. R. Anson, c E. T. Peel, b G. MacLaren E. H.
