I)U RBAN. Played at Ladysmith on January 2, no play being possible on the 1st, owing to rain. Durban led by 8 runs on the first innings; but, as this was really a two-day match, they can scarcely be said to have won. The Rev. C. D. Robinson, who was up at Cambridge close on twenty years ago, and came to England as second wicket-keeper to the South African Team of 1907, captained 'the Northern Districts. The other side, in the absence of the Natal eleven at Johan nesburg, was largely composed of young players. In Durban’s second E. Ellison took 5 for 34; otherwise the bowling presented few features of note, and there was no score of 50 in the game. Robbins was top scorer in each innings for the visitors. First innings. The visitors were not up against anything very powerful in their first match, at Masterton, on December 18 and 19, and a victory by an innings and 260 runs for them resulted. Kyle, going in last but one, hit up a century for South Melbourne, and the veteran, Harry Trott, bowled with great effect. W a ir a r a p a , T. Jordan, c Scott, b Giller 10 c Scott, b Trott W. For Wairara pa McAlpine took 7 for 119; Hickson 3 for 73, Logan o for 52, Jordan o for 49, •Congdon o for 35. 7 35 The Ceylon Team in Burma. The Ceylon team did not represent the island’s full strength, and was by no means strong in bowling, Greswell being the only man on the side really dependable in that department. Dr. G. Thornton, A. L. Gibson, and G. D. Brown were notable absentees. It was thought, however, that the team would be strong enough for the opposition likely to be encountered. This turned out a mistaken estimate, for the principal match of the tour, that v. All Burma, was lost in an innings, and the draw with Upper Burma was not greatly in the visitors’ favour. Scoring ruled pretty high, F. M. Garnett, F. G. Drayson, W. T. White, N. C. Phillips, and R. B. Taylor making lots of runs for the Burma sides, while V. F. S. Crawford, W. E. M. Paterson, J. C. Johnson, H. H. Sloane-Stanley, W. T. Greswell, Colonel Block, and B. F. A. Fawcett all distinguished themselves on behalf of Ceylon. Greswell took more wickets than all the other Ceylon bowlers together, but his 22 cost 510 runs, so that it can scarcely be said that he realised expectations. The games were all played on matting,. In the first match the Rangoon Gymkhana made a splendid fight for victory, going in to make 361 to win, and getting 322. This was largely due to the fine play of F. M. Garnett, a brother of H. G., of Lancashire and Argentine fame. RANGOON GYMKHANA v. CEYLON . 15, 16, and 17. Ceylon Played at Rangoon, December won \>y 38 runs. C eylon . First Innings. \V. E. M.
