Royal Canadian Regt., Aug. 20. Capt. H. R. N. Cobbett, 143, Garrison v. W anderers, Aug. 21. Capt. C. R. E. W illetts, no*, Colonials v. English-Born, Aug. 30. The Garrison beat the W anderers (258 for 5 against 117), and Colonials (223 for 4, Cobbett 78) heavily defeated English-Born (60). W riting from Toronto, under date of September 2, Mr. E. S. Jackson, cricket Editor o f the Toronto D aily Star, says that by the end of the month cricket in Ontario w ill be a thing of the past. M ore cricket has been played in Toronto this season than ever before, and although many of the clubs are badly handicapped in the matter of grounds, there only being about three in the city fit to play upon, better averages have been made this year than in previous seasons. The Church and M ercantile League, com prising 24 clubs, has done much to encourage junior cricket in the city, and next year there are likely to be more competitors for the Eastmure Cup, which gees with the championship o f the league. The two divisions finished up on September 1, St. D avid's with 10 wins out of 12, leading in the Eastern division, and Yorkshire Society, also with 10 victories, quali fying for the final as the winners o f the Western section. In the City League, there has been a keen com petition among Toronto, Rose dale and St. Alban’s. The Toronto Club defeated St. Alban's on August 30 by a score o f 180 (for 6) to 46, G erald Greene making 49, and Dr. W. W. W right 42. Norman Seagram took five St. Alban's wickets for 14 runs. On September x, Toronto also defeated Rosedale, taking the championship of the senior division, and qualifying to play Grace Church, the winners of the B Section, who have 13 straight wins to their credit. In the Rosedale-Toronto game, played at Rosendale, the homesters were badly beaten, all being out for 76, the smallest score they had made during the season. Toronto hit up 205, (H. G. Davidson 47, R. S. Saunders 27, G. Green 37). Rathbun and Seagram shared the Rosedale wickets, the form er taking 5 for 33, and the latter 5 for 32. Overseas Cricket. W E S T IN D IE S . The portrait group on this page is one o f the H olborn C.C. eleven, which won the championship of the Second Eleven Competition in Barbados during 1912-3. The success achieved is the more notable as the club was only started in the preceding season, when it took third place to Pickwick II. and the Lodge School. Eight sides com peted. K. S. Warren topped the H olborn batting averages, and J. S. Hoad the bowling. The side won 9 matches and drew 4, 2 being abandoned “ after rain ” —but these should by right be included among the draws, surely? So far this season (that is, up to the time when the portrait was forwarded (Aug. 29) the Holborn men had not lost a match. On August Bank( H oliday they met a picked team, including L. T. Yearwood, the Pickwick captain; and the cup was presented to them on that date by Mr. Birkett. Barbados has produced many fine cricketers; but just now there are gaps to be filled in the senior ranks, and as Yearwood, in his speech on behalf o f the Challenge Cup Committee, pointed out the H olborn Club has several men likely to fill some o f them. It has already given two men—C. A. W iles, who headed its batting averages in 1911-2 one of them— to senior cricket. The match was drawn. The Picked Team scored 226 for 6, dec., L. Reece (of the Leeward Club) making a steady 102*, F. A. Collymore (Combermere School) 54. H clborn scored 178 for 6—J. S. H ead 71, A. A. Browne, the captain, 54. On August 30 H olborn played a team o f professionals, scored 204 for 2 (H . Ramsay 56, retd.), and got down 9 of their opponents' wickets for 63.
