The Australians played three one-day games at Chicago, all on baseball grounds, not on the Wanderers’ pitch. The first was at the “ White Sox Ball Park ” on Wednesday, August 27. In the first t1ey had the usual easy victory. Crawford, who narrowly missed a century, and Campbell added 112 for the fourth wicket. The wicket was said to be a trifle tricky ; out the fifteen dropped five catches among them, and the score was bigger than it should have been. Collins bowled with great effect in Chicago’s first innings, and Bardsley met with success in the second. A ll C h ic a g o XVI. First Inning:*. Second Innings. A. T. The same venue served for the second match, August 28. Matting was stretched over the turf this time, however. J. Packenharn, who had not played in the first game, made 41 in good style; but the resistance of the other Chicagoans to Crawford and Mailey was feeble. The Australians made their 373 in less than 3 hours. Crawford hit four 6’s and eleven 4’s. Mayne had one 6 and six 4's in his 63. No analysis available, but Crawford’s 10 wickets only cost 27. Some of the best Chicago men could not play, but their absence did not make a great deal of difference. The game was very lik,e the other two. A stand of 41 by Allen and Andres for the tenth wicket of Chicago was the best for the side in the three games. Cody and Macartney added 163 for the third Australian wicket. The former was missed at the wicket first ball, had two other lives, was in 90 minutes altogether, and hit nine 9’s. Macartney made a 6 and five 4’s, and scored runs “ from all angles."
