Though they were not defeated in a single innings this time, and made a trifle more respectable showing with the bat, the Canadian side did not earn much glory in the second game at Ottawa. Ormond Wallace, the Trinidad player, with a man to run for him, made top score, and hatted quite well. Cody bowled with great success in the first innings. The Australians won by 174 runs on the first innings. E astern C anada . First Innings. O. S. Freck, c Diamond,b Cody ... 4 T. Rankin, b A r n o t t .......................... 5 b Crawfor O. Two one-day matches were arranged instead of one two-day game in order to ensure a fu ll day’s play in each. Montreal put sixteen men into the field for the first game. Baber and Goodman both batted well, and the former and Burgess bowled with some success. The Australians won by 85 runs. A. B. Anthony, b Crawford ... 3 E. F. Kenyon, b Crawford ... 5 O. The seventeen (not, it is believed, confined to men on the ’Varsity books at present, if some c.f them were ever on them, indeed) lacked Goodman, Ince, Buckley, Malone, and others. They had 90 up for 7 . but the tail failed. Baber again played well for his side, and Lane bowled capitally. The Australians won on the first innings by 114 runs. Campbell, it will be seen, had rejoined the team after his accident, and took quite a big share in the bowling. C. F. Hawkins, c Crawford Bardsley................................... 5 P.
