Umpires— Brown and Webb. . Norfolk v. Glamorgan. At Lakenham, Norwich, September 1 , 2 , and 3 . Bain spoiled this challenge match, but as Norfolk secured a first innings’ lead the championship falls to theim. For a con sideration of £ 5 0 —which could not have done more than pay the team’s expenses— Glamorgan waived their right to play at home. There was a period of 1 3 0 minutes’ play on Monday, and on a slow, easy wicket Norfolk made 173 for 3 . Popham got 7 4 in a little over an hour and a half, and Stevens helped him to add 7 9 for the second wicket. On Tuesday there was le&j than 2 hours’ play. The Norfolk innings closed for 2 4 4 , and B iches and Tait made 5 4 without loss for Glamorgan. Only the fact that both sides were fighting hard redeemed Wednesday’s play from tedium. The not outs took the score to 9 5 , but at that figure 3 wickets fell. In all Glamorgan batted nearly 4 J hours for 1 6 8 ; but there was a sudden slump at the finish, the last 3 wickets all falling at that total. Then Creber, on a wicket that suited him, proved too much for Norfolk, and they were all out for 6 1 . N o r fo lk G l a m o r g a n . First Innings. Second Innings. R. W. Um pires— Attewell and Marshall. Y o r k s h i r e v. M.C.C. At Scarborough, September 2 and 3 — no play possible on the.Monday,.owing to rain. G. G. Napier bowled very finely for M.O.C., and Yorkshire were all out for 1 3 8 . Booth was almosit as deadly as Napier, and only Altham, who made his 3 1 in 4 0 minutes, did much for M.C.C. On Wednesday rain interfered with play. Bhodes— with his 2 ,0 0 0 in view, no doubt, batted 5 0 minutes for an addition of 6. Kilner scored his capital 6 7 * in 1 2 5 minutes. M.C.C., needing 1 8 4 in 1 0 5 minutes, after the closure had been applied, lost 4 for 1 9 ; but Faulkner and Altham added 4 4 , and the latter, again top scorer, fairly saved the game for his side. When Hirst bowled W. S. Bird with a ball that the old Malvernian did not attempt to play, he took his hundredth wicket of the season. This feat he has accomplished fifteen times. Seventeen times he has made 1 ,0 0 0 runs, and four teen times he has had both 1,000 runs and 100 wickets in a season. What a man it i s ! Y o r k s h ir e . First Inningd.
