Carr for K ent, who stayed in all day on a perfect pitch and scored 4 1 9 for 8 in five hours. Hardinge and Hum phreys rattled up 1 9 2 for the first w icket, the form er then going for an almost perfect 1 1 7 (nineteen 4 ’s) in 1 2 0 minutes. Humphreys, missed at 6 0 and 6 9 , scored his 1 0 5 in 1 9 0 m inutes and hit only nine 4 ’s. Th ere follow ed bright hitting by Seymour (his first 7 1 in 7 5 minutes, eleven 4 ’s) and W o o lle y . Stone kept w icket finely: On Friday the effort closed for 4 2 4 . F o r a while Hants did well, Johnson and B ow ell getting 5 5 for the first w icket and Tennyson rattling up 3 8 (a 6 and four 4 ’ s, in 3 0 minutes. M ead and B ow ell (the latter 7 9 in 1 3 5 minutes, ten 4 ’s) added 5 9 for the third partner ship. On M ead ’s departure three more w ickets went quickly ; but Abercrom bie and M cD on ell then made a useful stand. Kent increased their lead of 1 2 4 to 1 9 3 by Friday’s close, w ith 9 w ickets still to go. N ext morning the second partnership w icket was carried to 1 5 5 in 1 0 5 minutes. Seym our’s 7 7 (ten 4 ’s) was a brilliant innings- H u bb le and W o o lle y did little ; but Hardinge stayed to complete his second hundred in this match (a faultless 1 0 5 in 1 7 0 minutes, fourteen 4 ’s) and his third in succession. D illon declared after lunch at 2 3 4 for 4 , leavtng H ants to get 3 5 9 in 3 f hours. Scat cely anyone reckoned on Kent’s w inning, yet a brilliant victory was snatched. M ead m ade 3 0 out o f 3 0 in 2 5 minutes, and Sprot and B ow ell put on 1 0 3 in an hour for the fourth w icket. T h e board then show ed 1 8 1 . Thereafter six w ickets actually fell for 1 9 , W o o lle y doing a sensational bit of bow ling, and Kent won in grand style by 1 5 8 runs. K ent . First Innings.
