C um m in s the county was not at fu ll stren gth ; while the clu b side was a stronger one than that w h ich encoun tered H erts. On the first day as many as 564 ru n s were made. G . A . F au lkn er m ade 205 in 3 f hours, h ittin g two 5 ’s (each due to overthrows) and twenty- two 4 ’s. M ajo r T h om so n and h e added 170 for the second w icket, and W. R . C o llin s h elp ed the South A frican to put on 1 1 1 for the third. T h e innings was declared after 270 m inutes had p roduced 460 runs, and in som e th in g under an hour and a h a lf D orset m ade 104 for four, W . E . P a rk e, who has been scoring heavily in E a st A n glia this season, batting well and b ein g 45 * at the close. On Saturday h e and his cap tain , C . P. G ood den , carried their partn ersh ip for the fifth w icket to 135 . P arke’s 111 in clu d ed a 6, two 5 ’s, and fourteen 4 ’s ; G ood den h it one 5 and seven 4 ’s. F o llo w in g on ju st 200 in arrear D orset were first represented by th e century m aker and M cIn tyre, the not out man in the first innin gs. T h e latter fu s no great rep u tation as a batsm an ; bu t on this o ccasion he surprised everybody. H e p layed a really go od innings o f 83 , in clu d in g twelve 4 ’s, and he an d Parke, who was m issed before sco rin g a n d th ereafter m ade h is second cen tu ry o f the m atch, had 164 up before the first w icket fell. P arke hit three 5 ’s and tw elve 4 ’s. O n ce the pair were separated Faulkner proved irresistible, and even tually the M .C .C . won by 8 w ickets. In the m atch 1004 runs were scored. A singular fact is that the M C .C . captain , W . R . C ollin s, on ly utilised three bow lers, though he had at least one more, D ocker, in reserve. M .C.C. First Inni-ngs. Rev. R. S.
