Cricket 1913
558 CR I CKET : A WE E K L Y RECORD OF THE GAME. August 2o, 1913. Worcestershire v. Lancashire. At Dudley. August 18 , 19 , and 20 . Scoring ruled small on the first day of this match, the wicket always affording the bowlers some help. Makepeace and William Tyldesley did very well to send up 65 before the first dismissal occurred ; but the innings of the day was John Tyldesley’s 69 . He batted 100 minutes, hit a 5 and eight 4 ’s, and the only chance he offered was just before the end. The tail could do nothing with Pearson and Burrows. Worcestershire lost their fourth wicket at 73 , only Burns having done anything up to that p o in t; but G. N. Foster and Pearson then added 54 unparted before call of time. Not much more was done on Tuesday morning, and Lancashire had a lead of 27 , which they proceeded to discount by very poor batting against Burrows. John Tyldesley was the one real exception, for Heap should have been out early. This time the veteran stayed 95 minutes. Burrows bowled him with a no-ball before he had scored ; but this, of course, was no blot on his innings. The home side needed 162 to win. For the first time in the match runs came easily. Bowley failed ; but H. K. Foster was in his best form, and he and Burns added 66 in 45 minutes. At close of play, H. K. had made 70 out of 107 for 1 Four more wickets fell before the runs were got next morning, and his was one of them. For the fifth time this, season he wras out between 80 and 90 , this last innings being worthy of his best days. Worcestershire won by 5 wickets. L a n c a s h ir e . First Innings. The best stand was that of Seymour and W oolley— 75-. Kent’s fielding was not up to the mark when Leicestershire batted. At close of play the scoie was 79 for 4, Burgess and King having put on 41 for the second wicket. Next day 9 were down for 157. Geary and Skelding made a plucky effort to give iheir side the lead, but .failed in the event. From this point Kent began to get on top. Humphreys helped Hardinge to put up 69 for the first wicket, and Seymour aided in putting on 56 for the second. Then Dillon and Hardinge put on 79, and at the close on Tuesday Kent were 272 for 6, Hardinge 114*. This he carried to 154* on Wednesday before Dillon declared. He gave only one chance, and hit a 5, and sixteen 4’s. There had been a thunderstorm
