T h e first four W iltsh ire w ickets were down with only 25 on the b o a r d ; but som e o f the later batsm en played up well, L ap h am an d W illiam Sm ith h ittin g out in great style, and ad d in g 72 in 45 m inutes. T h e c h ie f stand o f the M .C .C . innin gs was one o f 88 for the second w icket by F au lk n er and M ajo r T h o m s o n ; but nearly everybody made runs. Faulkner hit fourteen 4 ’s.
