C R ICKE T : A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. August 23, 1913. Monmouthshire v. Cornwall. At Abergavenny, August 8 and 9. Dr W . S. Tresawna, who is in practice at Abergavenny, turned out for the only time fhis season for his native county. The match was spoiled by rain, for after Monmouthshire had run up a big score on the first day there 'Was very little play on the second. Silverlock played right through the home side’s innings, and he and his captain put up a big stand for the fourth wicket. M o n m o u t h s h ir e . A. M. On a wicket affected by rain the Kent men could do very little with Creber, only a plucky stand of 32 by Hickmott and Freeman taking their total into three figures. It was almost entirely due to Riches, who scored more than half the runs from the bat, that Glamorgan had a lead of 42 at the day’s end. The game produced a good struggle on Tuesday. Thanks to Trougliton and Weigall, Kent set the Welshmen nearly 120 to get for victory, and Freeman bowled so well that the result was never a foregone conclusion. First Innings. L. H. W. Some good bowling by E. H. D. Sewell and S. G. Fairbairn, and a capital 66 by W- B. Franklin put Bucks well ahead on the first innings ; and though R. W . Awdry and Newman played up well when the home side batted again most of the others failed before Sewell, and the visitors eventually ran out easy winners. W iltsh ir e . First Innings. C. S. Cornwall. At Reading, August 11 and 12. Cornwall lacked J. C. Bickford-Smith, and Berks had T. P. Norris and Bailey for Captain C. G. Hill and H. T. Crichton. Against some good bowling by Hawksworth and Woodburn only three of the Cornish team, Tresawna, Vibart, and Trevarthen did much ; and, though no Berkshire batsman got beyond the fifties, the home side held a decided advantage at the end of the day, Cornwall being still 60 behind with two men out in the second innings. On Tuesday W . N. Bickford- Smith played up well, and Vibart and Tresawna again did good work ; but Berks were set only a little over a hundred, and a brilliant innings (eleven 4’s included) by Captain Collins helped to give them an easy victory.
