At Poole, August 6 and 7. At the end of the first day’s play the visitors appeared to have the upper hand, Dorset being only 3 runs on with 3 wickets down (all bowled by Hawken) in their second venture. But Goodden, who had played a good not-out innings at the first time of asking, again did fine work, and Busk helped him in a last-wicket stand that proved the turning-point of the game; for Corn- wall, going in to make 159 for victory, just failed, in spite of good innings by Humphrey, a new man, Davies, and Vibart. McIntyre bowled capitally for Dorset; and he, Goodden, and Walby had most to do with the hard-won victory of their side. Dorset seem quite a hefty team this year, with a decided faculty for rising to the occasion. D o r s e ts h ir e . Second Innings. 22 b Hawken _ First Innings. F. A. 8 . Sewell, b Whiting Freeman (E. Hertfordshire. At Felixstowe, August 6 and 7. Penfold and F. R. C. Cobbold, the Westminster boy, kept down the visitors’ scoring to quite moderate dimensions; but Suffolk failed before Burton and W. H. Marsh, only F. L. Titchmarsh staying long, and were obliged to follow on. In their second innings they did much better, thanks largely to a resolute stand of qq for the ninth wicket by Cobbold and Captain H. M. Lawrence, who years ago played in two or three matches for Kent. Hertfordshire easily knocked off the runs, and won by 5 wickets. H e r t f o r d sh ir e . First Innings. S. G.
